Hi from NY
Hi again - we have been in NYsince Saturday - first day we did a tour of the downtown Manhattan on a hop on hop off bus & then at night we did a city lights tour - terrific fun.
Yesterday we did an up town tour - you see so much more from the top of the double decker bus (very cold though) than you do when you are trying to dodge a million people on the side walk.
Last night we got to see 'The Colour Purple' on Broadway (yes, on Broadway!!!!!!) - we could not believe our luck! We just popped into the ticket office in the afternoon & a fantastic woman in the box office did us a huge favour - 4 rows from the stage, in the middle - it was terrific - & it was half price for the tickets!!!! The theatre was packed - don't know how we swung the deal (Lyn says it was her dazzling smile!!!!!)
Today we went on the bus again (Jill is much more relaxed up there!!!!) & on the ferry to Staten Is (it was free!!!!)Saw the Statue of Liberty up close & Ellis Is.
The weather was great today (though you don't see the sun here in Manhattan - too many tall buildings)
Ground Zero is eerie - hard to know what to feel when you are standing there!
Done heaps of walking & lots of soaking up the night life - Jill says NY is a once only in a life time expereience - for Lyn this is twice!!!)
Tomorrow we are off to the Halloween parade in Greenwich Village - is spectacular we are told & the biggest in NY - should be heaps of fun - we have both got into the Halloween thing since we have been here - the costumes are great.
Wednesday we leave for Houston Texas for the 'International Quilt Festival' - Jill will be in her element - Lyn will get lots of reading done!
It has been windy & cold here for the last couple of days, so the thermal undies have come in handy (thought you all needed to get that picture in your heads!!!- very attractive!)
Today has been sunny & warmer - tomorrow forecast for even better.
The shopping is fantastic - the prices are unbelievable!!Ali and Ash...you would love all the outlet stores....deisel shoes for 39 dollars....clothes and coats dirt cheap!!!
The hotel we are staying in for NY standards is very plush & roomy (they are usually quite small) - right on Time Sq - but not as noisy as we thought it would be

Hi gals, your adventures in NY brought back memories. However did we run a marathon there? Times Sq is neat. There is a hotel in Times Sq that has been converted to accommodation for a cross-section of homeless people. It is reported as an outstanding success. Some of the residents work in the coffee shops or similar on the ground floor....have you spotted it? We tried to pick up some of the ideas here but it takes $s and this lot is not prepared to part with any. I hope the quilting is a buzz Jill. Country living has meant that I have been exposed to more quilting than usual and I'm amazed at the creativity as well as the techniques that are on show. HOpe you get lots of ideas.
Keep the thermals on girls, they are soooo cuddly - not.

Hi Lyn and Jill, We're so glad you've had a taste of our "other world." Jill, NY takes a bit of getting used to. Greenwich Village has a different pace than Times Square. We often miss lots of stuff about NYC-- the food, the people, our dog-loving friends. Hope that the Texas quilt show is everything you want it to be. Stay in touch.
