Lancaster County - Penn

Today was day one of 'quilt heaven' for Jill.
We started the day with some exposure to the Amish way of life which was fantastic - it is amazing to see how they have managed to maintain their culture while living within a very modern culture.
We have seen some fantastic examples of how they do this - last night we saw 2 buggies 'parked' outside a take away pizza place - there were 2 young Amish teenage boys standing at their buggies smoking! We hoped that they were not actually pizza delivery boys - might have been quite a wait!
Everywhere over here the banks have drive through teller machines (just like Macca's for money!)& up pulled a couple of buggies & they went through the drive through - it was just priceless! They even have 'station wagon' type buggies, & while we were driving on a country road, a buggy went past with a new bouble bed ensemble tied onto the back - it looked great!
The Amish can ride in cars, but they can't drive one - works for them!
We went on a buggy ride this morning which was fantastic - through the Amish farms - freezing cold, but worth it!
This afternoon we have been in the quilt shops - of which there are many (to darn many Lyn says!)
Will have to head to the post office tomorrow for another post home of the things we have purchased!
We have lots of photos to post, but the computer at the hotel does not allow us to download, so we will try & find a place to do photos tomorrow when we go into Lancaster.
Madeleine - good luck with the shoulder surgery - give my love to the staff at Sportsmed - they are probably missing me! I hope this is not going to interfere with your plans to meet us in Norway! Also, I (Lyn) has devised a very good way to work out left from right - it is working a treat! I will show you when we return.
